I am looking for something along the lines of a college level reading but without the 200$ price mark. Also, another point of interest for me is being able to find the sources from the book. and confirm/send my friends the source so they can confirm. Right now my interests are The middle east, South Korea, and the American Civil War. But if you have any book recommendations I would love to hear them ( not trying to start a debate on U.S foreign policy here) but would like to be able to talk about it with friends.
Although this question could have a multitude of answers, these might get you started. They generally focus on Post WWII History and are all very good.
Bailey, Thomas, A Diplomatic History of the American People
Sestanovich, S., Maximalist: America in the World from Truman to Obama
Williams, William A., The Tragedy of American Diplomacy
For a book on earlier US foreign policy, you can look at:
Harper, John L., American Machiavelli: Alexander Hamilton and the Origins of U.S. Foreign Policy
I unfortunately do not feel confident pointing out anything about US foreign policy during the Civil War era.
