I've had a growing interest in them lately.
Doesn't have to be a book. Could be a podcast or a youtube channel or something like that. The more extensive the better.
Last time I asked this question or was only met with jokes. "Ve vill ask zee questions comrad", "in Russia KGB read books on you!". That sort of thing. Very disappointing. As much as I live a good joke I'd appreciate real answers.
Thanks!!
I read it a long time ago, but it was very thick and packed with details and juicy stories; I can't attest to its historical accuracy but it was a good read nonetheless: KGB: The Inside Story of Its Foreign Operations from Lenin to Gorbachev Reprint edition by Andrew, Christopher, Gordievsky, Oleg.
Gordievsky of course had a long career in the KGB, culminating in a posting as the London rezident (station head of KGB operations), all the while being a double agent for MI6. In 1985, the KGB knew that something was fishy and recalled him to Moscow but he managed to slip his surveillance and he was smuggled across the Finnish border.
He and Christopher Andrew have written several books about the KGB and its exploits, but I haven't read any but the one I mentioned.
