When was the saying or label ''first world'' or ''third world'' countries used and what was the original indicators for this.
I am having a disscussion with a friend because i am saying that thia label was started to opress the less developed countries and to say that this are ''worth less''. Any information regarding this subject is apreciated.
Well, first and third world orginated from the Cold war. First world meant countries in nato while third meant un-alligned countries (communist bloc was the second world) Most third world countries were poorer countries in Africa, South America and and middle east however there were some in europe like ireland, Sweden and Finland who obviously arn't poor countries. I do not know how exactly it originated to saying 1st world problems unfortunately but you can make a good guess that it just became a stereotype or that someone just used it and it caught on. I'm sorry i dont know exactly when it started to be use.
