Context: I'm only 17 but I still feel odd being British and knowing next to nothing about our history (thanks Education system) so I watched a few documentaries about the Plantagenet family tree and how that eventually led to the War of Roses and the Tudors origins in Henry the 7th. I found these really fascinating.
Question: So my question is simple, are there any good documentaries I should give a whirl about British history? I'm reluctant to pick up any books at the moment since I'm reading a good few for A-Level English at the moment already. Thanks in advance.
This isn't an exhaustive list, just the ones I have personally watched.
The Great British Story: A People's History presented by Michael Wood on the BBC, 2012
The Adventure of English presented by Melvyn Bragg on ITV, 2003
The Story of Wales presented by Huw Edwards on BBC, 2012
Story of England presented by Michael Wood on BBC, 2010
The Story of Ireland presented by Fergal Keane on BBC, 2011
A History of Scotland presented by Neil Oliver on BBC, 2008
Castles: Britain's Fortified History presented by Sam Willis on BBC 4, 2014
Birth of Britain presented by Tony Robinson on National Geographic, 2010
The First Georgians: The German Kings Who Made Britain presented by Lucy Worsley on BBC 4, 2014
I'd highly recommend trying to get hold of the Radio 4 series "This Sceptred Isle" for an overview of British from 55 BC to the modern day.
It is sometimes repeated on Radio 4 Extra, but it appears you can buy it from amazon or itunes
