Question about Chicago style citing footnotes

by JAYARROW2323

hey sorry I’m a high school student and am confused. Hard to find answers on google. I am writing a paper in Chicago style, Confused about footnotes. When you use, let’s say, the same website for an entire paragraph, do I have to footnote every line? Or just the last sentence in the paragraph on the same source. Also if u write a paragraph with a website, and then talk about a book, then back to the website, you would have to do 3 footnotes right? Thanks in advance

UW-Madison has a good guide to Chicago Style online. Check with your instructor if you have questions, but I would generally err on the side of "if in doubt, cite it." In your scenarios above, a paragraph drawn from a single source would be fine with a single footnote, but switching among sources should have multiple, just to make it clear where you're coming from.
