Through out most of Africa European colonists never made up a significant section of the population while in Americas became the majority in conquered areas. An effect of this some European powers were willing to rule the locals through local leaders who were sympathetic to their rule whilst in America the majority of the territory came to be ruled first by the federal government then later became a state, in both cases the rulers were almost exclusively non-native. Another major difference is that in the European colonies in Africa were seen as that nation's territory but not a part of that actual nation. Its citizens did not have citizenship of the colonial power while in America as could see today the conquered land was annexed into being full US territory.
