Greek and Roman statues?

by Killer_Katdoogan

A buddy of mine told me that Greco Roman statues stopped being made for thousands of years until the renaissance?

Is this true? It doesn't seem right to me.

This is (sort of) true! They stopped being made after the fall of the Roman Empire and were revived in the 15th Century during the Renaissance. This was due to some methods such as the method for creating bronze sculptures were lost. Primarily however it was down to the fact they represented pagan ideas and glorified the individual rather than God. This was adapted during the Renaissance as the image of Man was seen as God’s work and therefore worthy of being honoured. The pagan stories were adapted to show that their values caused failure and to show the triumph of Christianity
