Fellow redditors,
I really hope that this is the right subreddit for this kind of question..
Anyway, I'm preparing with some fellow students a presentation about about the influence of Arabic culture and language on western civilization and am hoping that somebody here can point me to some good literature (preferably in English)?
Maybe something regarding Arabic nomenclature in science if possible, or the general influences of the Islamic golden age, etc.. Anything that is factually correct (books, documentaries) would be greatly appreciated!
What level of sophistication are you looking for?
If you need something at a scholarly level you might be interested in a book like Greek Thought, Arabic Culture: The Graeco-Arabic Translation Movement in Baghdad and Early Abbasid Society or Religion, Learning and Science in the 'Abbasid Period in the Cambridge History of Arabic Literature Series.
If you just want something simple that lists "cool things Islamic civilization purportedly invented or influenced in the West" you'd probably do fine with something like 1001 Inventions: The Enduring Legacy of Muslim Civilization: Official Companion to the 1001 Inventions Exhibition. (Bearing in mind that it's basically propagandistic.)
