Why can't I remember hearing anything about the US's involvement in the Cambodian Civil War in any of my history classes?

First off, I'm sorry if this just comes across as really ignorant. I felt like my history classes throughout middle and high school were interesting, but I don't really remember answers to this coming up at all. Also, if you guys would rather provide a source for me to read up on in response to any of this, I don't mind that.

What involvement did the US have with Cambodia? My girlfriend is Cambodian and after we first met I realized I didn't know anything about Cambodia. Eventually I started reading about it and found out about Khmer Rogue. Admittedly I only really looked at the Wikipedia page for Khmer Rogue, but I don't really understand that conflict or what the US actually did about it, even though it sounds like the leadership of Cambodia at that time was communist and that was the period of time where the US was very openly anti-communist.

Here's a good basic video on the topic: https://youtu.be/sh3webrTmmk

A pretty simplistic view but there's a ton to cover here so this is a good start! Extremely interesting part of American history that no one really wants to discuss.
