If i would study archaeology, what is the chance of being a part of a big research overseas?

There are many ways to participate in archaeology without having a degree; digs are always looking for volunteers, and there are even programs that connect volunteers with "big research overseas" - although there is often a fee.

Can you double major - IT and archaeology/anthropology? Archaeologists who are fluent with IT issues are extremely valuable (consider a focus on GIS, which has many different applications beyond archaeology). With IT engineering you can always get a job with or without archaeology, but with both, your horizons open significantly. Even a minor in archaeology might help - and you could always pursue an advanced degree in archaeology with your IT degree serving as wind behind your sail.

The thing is, i have a passion towards archaeology and historical things. However, currently im planning to study IT engineering, not because i love (altough i do not hate it neither) because it will give me a decent living. And basically i cant choose between the two. I would love archaeology, but the chance of getting a good job (or even a job) is low.
