I Need Help With My Possible Gulf War Series!

by Deinonychus40

You read the title. Now answer this question! During the Gulf War, could there be female soldiers in a platoon of mostly male soldiers? I need to know because I plan to include a brother and sister in the same platoon.

The answer to your question is yes, women were not put into segregated units in the Gulf War.

40,000 women were deployed to Iraq during the Gulf War, all serving as combat support troops mostly behind the lines. Officially, they were not allowed to fire back if fired upon (though according to some accounts, they did), were barred by congressional regulations from the front lines.

In addition, it was very rare for siblings to be assigned to the same base, and almost never both in combat roles out of the same base. They could have enlisted using the "buddy system," which allowed up to five friends to enlist and be assigned to the same place for at least a year. However, keep in mind that, were one to be killed or severely injured, the other would likely be sent home.
