Why does Cuban food traditionally not include a lot of fish despite it being an island in the Caribbean?

I hear about a lot of Cuban food and hear about it from a few friends who have visited, but fish never comes up very prominently. Considering it's a large island in the Caribbean, I'd expect the exact opposite. Is there a reason fish doesn't seem to be a big part of Cuban cuisine?

Question: is that true of Cuban cuisine in Cuba or just what is prepared in the US? Irish food in the US is also lacking in seafood, despite Ireland also being an island. However, seafood is very abundant in Irish cuisine in Ireland itself.
