There were many elected officials in the United States before George Washington -- the delegates that were elected to each colonial representative house, the delegates that were elected from each colony to serve serve in the Continental Congress and so forth.

Is there a particular elected official or elected office that you're curious about? There's a meme that Washington was not the first "president" of the United States because there were "presidents" of the Continental Congress, but the role was very different, having no executive power.
