The concept of Patron saints in Christianity seems very similar to polytheistic religions with many minor gods and goddesses to me. Are there any examples of perhaps a Greek, Roman, or another western/near east polytheistic god being “christianized” into a patron saint?
Hey! While there is always room for further discussion, you might find an older answer or two of mine useful. I elaborated on that answer here. This post might also provide some additional context regarding late ancient and early medieval popular religion in general. Happy to answer follow-ups upon request, but I am traveling at the moment. Apologies in advance if responses are slow coming.
