What newspapers were abolinisist in the 1850's?

by AshaNyx

I need a source for a piece of course work on uprisings in america in the 19th century. I already have a source from Harpers weekly about the raid on harpers ferry, but I would like to have one with a contrasting view point to compare it with. Thanks for any help.

The biggest antislavery, but not abolitionist, paper of the 1850s is definitely Horace Greeley's. It's also available scanned online, for free. The LOC browser isn't the greatest experience sometimes, but usually zooming in and out a little will sharpen the images. For outright abolitionism, William Lloyd Garrison's The Liberator is a great source. I used to have a source for Frederick Douglass' newspapers online and he'd be a great contrast to Garrison, but it's no longer available.
