Welcome flair applicants! This is the place to apply for a flair – the colored text you will have seen next to some user's names indicating their specialization. We are always looking for new flaired users, and if you think you have what it takes to join the panel of historians, you're in the right place!
For examples of previous applications, and our current panel of historians, you can find the previous application thread here, and there is a list of active flaired users on our wiki.
A flair in /r/AskHistorians indicates extensive, in-depth knowledge about an area of history and a proven track record of providing great answers in the subreddit. In applying for a flair, you are claiming to have:
Expertise in an area of history, typically from either degree-level academic experience or an equivalent amount of self-study. For more exploration of this, check out this thread.
The ability to cite sources from specialist literature for any claims you make within your area.
The ability to provide high quality answers in the subreddit in accordance with our rules.
For a more in-depth look at how applications are analyzed, consult this helpful guide on our wiki explaining what an answer that demonstrates the above looks like.
To apply for a flair, simply post in this thread. Your post needs to include:
Links to 3-5 comments in /r/AskHistorians that show you meet the above requirements, and of which at least three were posted in the last six months. Answers linked in an application should go 'above and beyond' the base requirements of the rules here, and reflect the depth of your expertise.
The text of your flair and which category it belongs in (see the sidebar). Be as specific as possible as we prefer flair to reflect the exact area of your expertise as near as possible, but be aware there is a limit of 64 characters.
One of the moderators will then either confirm your flair or, if the application doesn't adequately show you meet the requirements, explain what's missing. If you get rejected, don't despair! We're happy to give you advice and pointers on how to improve your portfolio for a future application. Plenty of panelists weren't approved the first time.
If there's a backlog this may take a few days but we will try to get around to everyone as quickly as possible.
"I'm an Expert About Something But Never Have a Chance to Write About It!"
Some topics only come up once in a blue moon, but that doesn't mean you can't still get flair in it! There are a number of avenues to follow, many of which are dealt with in greater detail at the last section of this thread.
Expected Behavior
We invest a large amount of trust in the flaired members of /r/askhistorians, as they represent the subreddit when answering questions, participating in AMAs, and even in their participation across reddit as a whole. As such, we do take into account an applicant's user history reddit-wide when reviewing an application, and will reject applicants whose post history demonstrate bigotry, racism, or sexism. Such behavior is not tolerated in /r/askhistorians, and we do not tolerate it from our panelists in any capacity. We additionally reserve the right to revoke flair based on evidence of such behavior after the application process has been completed. /r/AskHistorians is a safe space for everyone, and those attitudes have no place here.
Quality Contributors
If you see an unflaired user consistently giving excellent answers, they can be nominated for a "Quality Contributor" flair. Just message the mods their username and some example comments which you believe meet the above criteria.
Revoking Flair
Having a flair brings with it a greater expectation to abide by the subreddit's rules and maintain the high standard of discussion we all like to see here. The mods will revoke the flair of anybody who continually breaks the rules, fails to meet the standard for answers in their area of expertise, or violates the above mentioned expectations. Happily, we almost never have to do this.
Additional Resources
Before applying for flair, we encourage you to check out these resources to help you with the application process:
I would like to apply for an extension of my flair. I'm not sure exactly what it should say but I think that "Conversion in Northern Europe" doesn't quite fully describe what I'm able to write on.
This is on the cultural connections between the Anglo-Saxons and their continental brethren
This is on the viking conquests of England
This is on Anglo-Saxon court life and its relationship with continental powers
And finally one on the situation with Denmark immediately following the Norman Conquest
I'd like to throw my hat in the ring for the FAQ Finder flair. I think I have a pretty good handle on the FAQ and on finding previous posts. Some examples:
On travel between the Union and Confederacy in the American Civil War
On the accuracy of Voltaire's famous "neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire" quip
On the rise of the tomato in Italian cuisine (This one was a bit of a cheat because I only shared a previous compilation of topics)
As you can see, I always link to the users that created the answers that I'm linking, and I follow the civility/rudeness guidelines. I've found straightforward answers (i.e. the Hitler ones), and I've found more abstract ones (i.e. the answer about how Boston became so Catholic). You won't find me behaving in an unsavory way elsewhere on Reddit (aside from the fact that I'm a Patriots fan). I'd love to be a flaired member of this community, because it really is an amazing forum and it's given me endless hours of entertainment, but if I don't make the cut, I'll still be doing my best to find FAQ posts and link older answers.
Thanks!
I'd like to apply for flair in "Early Modern Jesuits | Early Modern Drama" if I can. Let me know if anything's not in order or if there's any behaviors you'd like to see in the future! (I promise I can stop using the word "jizz" if required.)

Were witch hunts gynocides/what were (late medieval and early modern) witch hunts?
Hi. I’m still relatively new here, but thought I might give flair application a shot. Perhaps something like “Late Medieval English Literature and Book History”? Too long, maybe?
I’ve been working in medieval literature and history for about five years, and have a (cumbersomely titled) “MPhil in English Studies (Medieval Period)”. I work mostly on English literary culture of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, with a particular interest in manuscript production and textual transmission. I live for the day that someone wants to know about vernacular Wycliffism.
Here are some examples of my more thorough posts based on secondary material:
And some less comprehensive answers that put a greater emphasis on primary material:
Hello!
I'd like to apply for the following flair: "Art History | Medieval and Renaissance Europe"
I am currently an adjunct professor of art history; I received my PhD in the field from Rutgers University (pm for teaching specifics or details).
Some of my comments from the past six months:
Where does the stereotype of the 'difficult, tortured, artistic genius' come from?
Did Raphael, Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci ever meet in person?
Thank you for your consideration!
Hello, it was suggested to me that I apply for flair. My realm of expertise is genocide studies with a particular focus on Cambodian history and the Khmer Rouge period between 1975-1979. I graduated from Monash University in 2011 and I am currently doing Post-graduate study there. I am certainly no expert on the matter - but I am familiar with the literature, and I have travelled in Cambodia numerous times. Last time I took the time to meet the Director of the Tuol Sleng museum and do a small amount of volunteer work for them. I guess I have closely studied the period for a number of years now. I was even lucky enough to have David Chandler - one of the most prominent scholars of Cambodian history - as my thesis supervisor for a short period of time.
In the ten years or so I've been fascinated with Cambodia I've also amassed quite a substantial collection of books relating to the period so I have most of the relevant literature on hand to answer questions with. Aside from working on my thesis about KR ideology I also produce a history podcast called 'in the shadows of utopia', which means a lot of my spare time is spent just reading about genocide and Cambodian history.
Here are some links to comments I've made since getting involved in this sub a few weeks ago:
Use of the term 'genocide' in relation to Khmer Rouge crimes
Cambodia before the Khmer Rouge (in relation to Thailand and Vietnam)
What happened to the Khmer Empire?
In most of these I've welcomed follow up questions and given some weighty responses as well.
I guess a relevant 'flair' would be Cambodian History | The Khmer Rouge
Cheers, Locky
Hello,
I would like to apply for a Middle Eastern flair with the text "Safavid Iran" (a tad broad, I know, but there are so few questions on it anyway and they're usually very general; I feel confident stringing together an answer on any question pertaining to the Safavids except for scientific history, where the historiography is small and largely unconnected to the rest of the study of the subject).
I submit the following answers for your approval:
On the rise to power of Shah Isma'il.
On the decline and fall of the Safavid dynasty
On Iran in the 1640s and 1650s.
I realise that 3 questions is not very many, but there are very few questions on my field which come up; so to demonstrate that I am active here, some smaller questions/book requests answered: [1] [2], [3] and [4]
Thank you for considering me! I quite understand if this isn't enough, or if the answers are lacking in some respect :) I'm a doctoral student studying Safavid history, so hopefully my answers will only improve as I read and research more. Hopefully. Maybe :P.
I'd like to apply for a flair, probably "19th Century France." I have no particular academic training but read broadly in history and history-adjacent fields, and have been particularly knee-deep in researching a pending project on France from 1814-1914. ("France 1814-1914" would also be an acceptable tag, but so far my research has been focused on the earlier part of the period, which means I have been reading and discussing the revolutionary period and haven't yet done much on the post-Dreyfus period.) I'd be okay with "Quality Contributor" if you feel my answers so far are too generalist and insufficiently specialized.
Here are the answers I've written that touch directly on 19th Century France:
Other answers I've given that don't relate specifically to 19th Century France:
After my surprisingly popular comment from yesterday, I figured this would be a good time to apply for flair. I think "Egyptian Language" or maybe "Ancient Egyptian Language" (to avoid confusion, although I do also know a passable amount of Egyptian Arabic) would be good choices. I have been "Guest Lecturer" ever since the AMA, so I would like to have something that reflects my specific area of expertise. I seem to have a few decent posts from the past six months:
I also have quite a few comments in the Egypt AMA from six months ago. Maybe this one is good?
Also, I personally like this answer, but it seems that I forgot to go back and put in the sources, so maybe it doesn't qualify: The Marxist author Paul Cockshott claimed in one article that building of Pyramids was an example of economic calculation without Markets. Can it really be considered an example of Central Planning?
Hello, I'd like to apply for a flair in 'Taiping Rebellion'. A very specific request, I know, but it is basically my biggest interest and just about the only topic I write answers for. The Asian History colour would be more appropriate than Military History, I feel, given my rather broad interest within this particular niche.
My sample answers are:
On top of this, there's this answer on religion in Imperial China which isn't specifically Taiping-focussed but still reasonably relevant.
EDIT: I understand that the answers I've put up here are quite close together, but I felt it best to post my more recent contributions.
EDIT: Thanks for accepting my application! I won't let you down!
Hello, I'd like to apply for flair in...maybe..."17th Century North America". Or maybe more appropriately, "English in 17th Century North America"? I'm open to suggestions.
Here are some sample answers:
Why were Quakers hated so much?
Did the Native Americans have folk tales about the origin of Europeans?
Was smoking considered a vice even before it was widely known to be carcinogenic?
Who brought African slaves to North America first?
Fluffier stuff:
Please let me know what improvements you'd like to see. I'll continue to hunt for questions.
I've been a long time viewer, but first time poster; I even made a new account to potentially get a flair. I have a history B.A. from Yale, and I'll have an M. Phil in history from Cambridge next year. I can provide any proof necessary to the moderator team via some private interaction. Is there any way that I can get a flair without having commented on this specific account? My areas of specialty are the Civil War and Civil Rights eras, respectively. My (honors) Yale thesis is on the Civil War, and my Cambridge Masters dissertation is on the Civil Rights movement. Thanks in advance!
Hi there, I'd like to apply for a flair in "Komnenian/Angeloi Byzantium." I specialise in Byzantine History, the Komnenoi, the Crusades and Armenia. I finished my postgraduate last year in Onomastic legitimisation in Byzantium 1180-1240 from King's and Royal Holloway. My undergraduate dissertation was on Manuel's church negotiation with Cilician Armenia c.1165-1180. I'm on Academia.edu and I'm currently teaching English in Greece and just keeping my hand in the historical field by doing this.
My punishment is far heavier. I forgive you, and set you free.” What did Alp Arslan mean by this?
I would like to apply for a flair in "Science, Mathematics, and Technology of East Asia" under "History of Science and Technology". The following are some examples of my answers:
On the transmission of the gun from Asia to Europe Part 1, Part 2, and reply about chemical warfare in East and Inner Asia
On the history of block printing and movable type in China, reply about movable type in Korea, and reply about literacy rates in Qing China
On the introduction of Copernican heliocentrism in China by the Jesuits
On the history and diffusion of the compass Part 1, Part 2, reply about the north and south-pointing conventions for compasses, and reply about crabs "spoiling" lacquer in Chinese alchemy
I was recommended to apply for flair; I honestly don't know if I qualify since I'm not an historian, but a global health physician who runs a podcast on medical history. My particular interest is early modern and modern medical history -- though again, I'm a generalist physician, with no formal post-graduate history training. I read and write pretty obsessively, which is where many of my answers come from. I suppose my flair would be something like "Early modern medical history", though it should clarify that I'm an MD and not an historian. I'm not sure how that would be handled.
Some of my recent contributions:
I also have several (far more clinical, though still historical) posts on r/Medicine if you'd be interested (for example, this one showing a woodcutting on what is likely one of the first syphilis patients known to European physicians).
Okay, let me know what you think. I usually approach many of these subjects as a physician, so I understand if that's not what you're looking for. Thanks!
Hello! Interested in applying for "The Soviet Union & Post Soviet States | Modern Central Asia"
Posts submitted for consideration:
Thank you!
ETA: I didn't initially include this answer on Popular and Elite American Opinion on the Vietnam War because it's a little out of the main subject area I'm interested in, but it's a Cold War answer and imo a pretty good one, so I'm tagging it on to the end of this request anyway.
I'd like to apply for FAQ finder flair. My most recent links:
As you can tell, I've pulled links to the FAQ, booklist, and answers both directly and indirectly addressing the question. I always ping the answerer, and always try to be civil.
Thanks for taking a look!
Thanks so much!
I applied for a flair over a month ago, and I haven't had a reply yet, so I'm posting a new application.
I would like to apply for a flair in "Politics and Culture in England, France and the Crusader States" in the European History category.
Here are links to some questions I've answered:
Was Ecbert really the first anglo saxon king to successfully pass on the throne to his son?
How did Britain and France go from enemies to allies?
Before Mary I, were females actually included in the English line of succession?
[In 1095, the First Crusade is called to aid Byzantium, a Christian power, against their Muslim enemy. In 1204, the Fourth Crusade conquers the capital of Byzantium. I'm not sure how flair applications work on askhistorians, but if my request has been denied could you please say so instead of just ignoring me.
I would like to (finally) apply for a dual flair. Ideally, I think my flair would say 'European Fairy Tales' and 'American Comic Books'. My degree is in English and Political Science, and I have a lot of varying interests that I study in my spare time, but those two are ultimately my two specializations that I've been consistently able to answer questions for on this sub.
Here are my posts for my 'European Fairy Tales' flair application:
Reply to "I've heard the Disneyified versions of Grimm's Tales Americans are familiar with are highly sanitized (RRHood and Grandma are eaten by the wolf,Snow White is about necrophilia,it's Cinderella's family, not steps- tormenting her, that kind of thing). Is this true? Were children the target audience?", which won the Dark Horse Award in March.
Reply to " "Did the Brother's Grimm make the children's stories they collected darker and more violent than the original oral traditions?", which won the Dark Horse Award last month in May.
Reply to "Where can I go to find reliable information about folklore?"
----
For my 'American Comic Books' flair, here are my responses:
I know that's one less than the 3-5 submissions, but unfortunately questions about comic books don't come around very often. I am currently working on something to submit to this week's Saturday Showcase concerning the history of comic books spanning multiple titles, however, that I will promptly link as soon as it's posted. Thanks everyone!
I'd like to apply for a flair in "The Holocaust|Communist China" Here are a few of my answers:
How is Chiang Kai-shek viewed by historians from the People's Republic of China?
What do the chinese learn about pre-communism China in school?
I'm currently in grad school and studying both of these topics in depth so if you would require additional material for approval, I'd be happy to link to a few papers that were done very recently.
Thank you!
I'd like apply for a flair for "Late Antiquity|Huns|Fifth Century Rome" under "European History."
Some example posts:
Hi! Although I've only been a casual user until now, I'd like to continue to do my part in 'service to the profession' on reddit as well, so I'd like to apply for some flair, especially as it seems I fill some niches that are somewhat lacking on this subreddit. I would go for 'Social History' / 'East Central Europe'/ 'Early Modern' (give or take the last one). Please see my recent answers, which I would say qualify:
[In the 19th century the recently independent Eastern Europe kingdoms tended to choose monarchs from Western European dynasties, what explains this phenomenon?] (https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/8ax5xi/in_the_19th_century_the_recently_independent/dx3150f/)

Looking forward to your reply!

Hello! I would like to apply for flair - something like 'Spanish Civil War and International Brigades', although I've found myself addressing a few questions about broader Iberian/British history when there were some fun questions not getting answered. I've recently completed a PhD in this area (having some unaccustomed free time after submission helped convert me from a longtime lurker to active participant).
Some of your colleagues have been kind enough to highlight some of my answers in the digest or on twitter, including:
Salvador Dali's dubious political allegiances
The (un)reaction of the Ethiopian government in exile to the Spanish Civil War
The past and future state of Spanish Civil War historiography
There's a few other answers that I felt were pretty decent but got less attention, such as:
On a 'Jewish' response to the Spanish Civil War
The British treatment of 'dissidents' in the Second World War
Me not yet realising that 'Is Orwell a crank?' is pretty well dealt with in the FAQ
I've only recently gotten in the habit of proactively providing sources rather than waiting to be asked. Quite a few questions touching directly on my area of expertise I've been able to answer more or less from memory, which has led to more functional, less interesting answers - I'm working on it! If anyone wants to re-ask questions in the FAQ about SCW volunteers recruitment and motivations, relationship with locals, treatment afterwards or similar, I promise I won't skimp...
Hello, I would like to apply for a flair in "Politics, Culture and Diplomacy in Western Europe" or if that topic is too broad then "Politics and Culture in England and France" this flair should be in the European History Category.
Here are some of my answers:
Was Ecbert really the first anglo saxon king to successfully pass on the throne to his son?
How did facists in WW2 manage to work together when they had an inherent feeling of superiority?
How did Britain and France go from enemies to allies?
Before Mary I, were females actually included in the English line of succession?
Hey /r/AskHistorians,
I've been doing a lot of "leveling up" academically (and unfortunately not much posting here) but I anticipate being able to contribute more readily in the coming twelve months. To celebrate this, I'd like to ask that my flair be changed to "Andean and Amazonian Archaeology | Ecuador". It more fully reflects my broader (and deeper) research interests.
Looking forward to stalking these forums a little more earnestly!
Hello all! I was recommended to apply for a flair based on my prior posts regarding the topic of video game history on this sub which get brought up occasionally. This covers all aspects of artistry, business, and technology in the industry from it's beginnings up until the present day. My degree is in Game Design though not anything academically in the histories. The field is very small so there's not a lot of opportunity to follow that as an educational route. I have surrounded myself with those experts in the field and wish to help people in a greater understanding of this subject.
Flair would be something simple like "Video Game History".
Soviet video games and the economic barriers of official business
Public perception of video games over time
On Atari's failure during the 1983 North American Home Video Game market Crash
Thanks all!
Hi! I'd like to apply for flair in "Vietnam War | Post 1973 & Refugee Crisis" and the category would be in Asian History (either that or Military History). My undergraduate thesis was on South Vietnamese strategic and tactical thinking in 1975, and I've conducted a fair amount of research (both academic and amateur in nature) on post-war Vietnamese terror and insurgency groups, as well as on the refugee crisis and its consequences. However, I understand if my comment history and answers aren't all that frequent enough and strong though.
and some older comments additionally:
If I'm not approved, I'd love advice on how to improve and the opportunity to answer more questions!
I would like to apply for the flair "Spanish Early Golden Age Literature (1492-1559) ", and the category for that would be "European History".
A string of comments on linguistic aspects of the Castilian spoken in the first half of the XVI century
A comment giving a very adequate source on Spanish theatre History and daily life in the XVII century, despite being rather unknown amongst English speakers.
Translation of a letter of a Spanish student in Wittenberg in 1542, giving a detailed academic plan
On Spanish administrative and judiciary affairs in the late XV and early XVI Century
Some academic papers written by me and published in peer-reviewed journals:
On the false privilege of Maarten Nuyts and the implications on the Lazarillo de Tormes
The Lazarillo de Tormes in the English bibliophile world: notes on auctions, lost editions, and ignored editions
The edition of the Lazarillo from Antwerp 1553: documentary evidence
I would like to apply for a flair in "19th century American South, American Slavery." Here are some of the answers I have given on these topics:
How involved was the North in antebellum Southern cotton farming?
Did all Confederate soldiers agree with what the Confederacy was fighting for?
Thank you!
If that is possible, I would like to apply to have my flair changed a bit from "World War 2 in Western Europe" to more generally "Europe during the World Wars".
I have made the following contributions that I believe warrant the change:
I looked into Ottoman alignment to the Central Powers in the immediate leadup to World War 1 and in a followup provided an accout of Bulgarian diplomacy during the same period.
I tested the theory of Polish reparatory payments to Britain after World War 2.
I discussed historical fascism as an ideology and political movement in a mostly European context.
I discussed Germany's attack on the USSR and whether it was a military blunder.
I hope this request is not out of place.
I have also had several two separate excourses into the Cold War, one regarding the question of Truman's personal fault in it and another specifically dealing with my home country, Germany, and the two German states interacting in regards to East German political prisoners, but I think there is not yet enough basis there. I'll try to write up some more Cold War answers whatever the case whenever I see one I have some good literature about.
Hi, since starting my phd a while ago I haven't been keeping up as much as I'd like to with my studies of South Asian history. So I don't really feel comfortable anymore with my 2nd flair on "Colonial India".
In its place I would, if possible, prefer to have a 2nd flair on Spanish America, the area I answer most questions on behind Mexico. Maybe something like "Early Spanish America" (fits better time-frame wise) or "Spanish American Intellectual History" (better topic wise but a bit long)?
I also would like to apply for modifying my 1st flair to make it clearer which region I'm working on and more concrete -- e.g. "Native Authors Of Colonial Mexico" instead of "New Spain" -- and can link answers for that too.
For the second flair, these are from my profile's section on Spanish America:
Where there a lot of people in 17th, 18th century Europe that opposed their country colonizing the New World? (an older one)
Bonus on later Sp.America: As South American independence movements succeeded in throwing out Spanish rule during the early 19th century, where were they looking to for influence and inspiration in the organization of the governments of the new nations?
Thanks for your consideration!
Hi! I would like to apply for a flair in Early Modern Habsburg & Low Countries.
My first flair application from a week ago is linked here. My posts are as follows:
Hello, I would like to apply for a flair for "Postcolonial Comparative History"
i am trying to offer answers from a perspective well informed by both critical theory and social/cultural anthropology that might encourage the user posing a question to explore the topic more for themselves, and hopefully through using a more nuanced perspective, discover something they didn't even realize they were looking for.
I will not directly link to sources in initial responses unless necessarily relevant, or unless I feel a visual aide is appropriate, instead pointing the user in the direction of these sources so they might have a greater chance for self-discovery.
Additionally, I will also attempt to provide partial answers to questions that I cannot precisely answer myself, or to users that have asked multi-part questions, in order to similarly encourage discovery on the part of the user asking the question.
thanks!
Here are some examples of my responses:
[on the development of 'third world' nations] (https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/7w7j88/why_cant_or_why_havent_thirdworld_countries/)
on soviet citizenship questions
on the differences and similarities between roman republic and late medieval France and HRE
on the origin of the malay people
on how far from the front yard children are allowed to go alone
I'd like to apply for the flair "Germany 1871-1945", here are some of my answers:
On Schleicher and von Papen vs Hitler
On the origins of the First World War
On the Ringvereine in Weimar Germany and under the Nazis
On why Germany wasn't broken up into its constituent parts following WWI and II
On the Government of the German Empire

Hello. I'd like to apply for flair or at the least get some feedback in what areas I need to improve. My area of expertise is France in World War 2, specifically the Fall of France, resistance and collaboration, the raid on Dieppe (with focus on the tanks), D-Day and the battle for Normandy (with focus on the Canadians) and the liberation of Saint Malo. I'm also very knowledgeable about Saint Malo, Corsairs, Brittany and Breton identity etc.
This being said my area of expertise is not generally in great demand with the exception of specific questions about D-Day.
My answers are
[My Great-Grandfather didn't fight in World War II. Why?] (https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/7m77p2/my_greatgrandfather_didnt_fight_in_world_war_ii/)
[Is there any information on crime in hunter gatherer groups?] (https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/7rf5me/is_there_any_information_on_crime_in_hunter/)
[How did Ancient law deal with someone returning after being presumed dead?] (https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/7wh57f/how_did_ancient_law_deal_with_someone_returning/)
And the overlooked [I am a 16th century navigator. The King of France has commissioned me to explore the New World. Where do I start?] (https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/7yi607/i_am_a_16th_century_navigator_the_king_of_france/)
Thank you for taking the time to review my application and if my answers are not good enough thanks in advance for the constructive criticism.
Not sure what I'd put on my flair. Maybe Scots in 18th Century America as that was my general topic for a long time. It's started to migrate to 18th century military in America but that's something newer for me.
One on some military history, no sources cited however.
I would like to apply for a flair in "Early Modern Europe". Here are my example posts.
Effects of the Reformation on law
Religious composition of the Dutch Republic in 1581
How did Spain obtain and lose the Low Countries
Thank you!
Hello!
I am a student of History who will be switching majors to Classical studies My primary historical focuses are Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece with some knowledge in Roman history. I would like to know how to add a flair to my profile.
I would like to apply and will provide links to my answers. While they are a bit more casual than the reports I turn in for school I try to tailor my writing to be both factual and interesting to read at all levels of learning. I provide citations upon request because most of what I respond to is content I feel comfortable answering without consulting my secondary resources. I do venture outside of Classics but only when I feel I have something valuable to add to the conversation.
I'd like to apply for the FAQ Finder flair. As someone who is on the sub daily I'd be more than happy to help point to FAQs were it my stated goal. My past contributions include FAQ finding and source- or quote-pulling, always keeping civil and pinging the user if I'm linking to a specific response:
And here's some participation in META threads, AMAs, and follow-up q's:
Hopefully that serves as some evidence that I enjoy doing the legwork to find relevant sources, and that I've spent time around these parts, not just recently, but over the years.
We ask that top level comments be Applications ONLY. If you have any questions about the process itself, or other META commentary, please respond to this comment only with it!
I'd like to apply for a flair in "Medieval England After 1066".

Hello! I would like to apply for "Roman Military 264-45 B.C.E." or "The Punic Wars" under the military history section.
"Did members of the Roman military adorn their armor with animal pelts?"
"How accurate is the Ruining History series Buzzfeed is doing?"
Thank you for considering me!
EDIT: Changed first flair a little.
Hey mods!
I would like to apply for the Asian History | Early Imperial & Medieval China flair. I haven't seen enough Buddhism questions to answer many, but further down the line I might apply to add that to my specialty too if I can answer more questions on Buddhism.
Contributions so far:
I'm relatively new to the sub but I've tried to give detailed answers as possible, including translations of Classical Chinese primary sources. Am currently working on a Ph.D. in Chinese history (hopefully passing my comps later this year!). Thanks for your consideration!
