Where there any instances of Allied military defecting to the Axis side in WW2?

Martin James Monti is a strange one. His service record with the US Army Air Forces between 1942 and 1948 included a several month break in service with the Waffen SS 1944/45.

Raised to basically despise the Soviet Union, and joining up as a fighter pilot, he stole an F-5E (P-38 derivative) from an airfield near Naples and landed it in Milan, handing the aircraft over to the Germans, who were also on fairly bad terms with the Soviets at the time. He then got involved in German propaganda efforts, apparently wasn’t all that great at it, and was sent to go be a translator/local propaganda guy in Italy. Eventually found by the Americans, after claiming to have flown the P38 against the Germans, he was convicted of stealing an airplane (misappropriation of Government Property) and being AWOL. Sent to Leavenworth, his sentence was later suspended, and he was allowed to re-enlist as a private. Made it back up to Sergeant before leaving in 1948.

FBI caught up with him after that, realised he was involved in German propoganda, and hauled him up for treason. Plead guilty, spent 11 years behind bars.
