I've occasionally heard that the USSR welcomed a large migration of Black Americans to live and work with their families in Russia in the interwar period. Can anyone tell me more about this?

Or perhaps recommend some sources? I'm very curious about this how this worked logistically and socially, and what happened to these families as time wore on.

I'd love to know about these families day to day lives, their relations to one another, Soviet citizens, families and friends back in the States, etc. What about their children and grandchildren? What happened during WWII? Were they ever granted Soviet citizenship? How were they educated and employed? &c &c

(Merry Christmas to anyone who celebrates!)
