I mean this question in the sense of, if you were to walk into an ordinary person's home in this time and place, what material things would be there? How big of a family lived in a house? How was the household laid out?
Okay ,OP I had to do a shitload of combing of various textbooks to write answer for this question. Here goes
First of all , the Maratha kingdom was not a homogeneous entity . Also , Its size varied under different rulers and in different times . For the sake of this answer , I will be talking only about the houses of maratha empire in present day state of Indian state of maharashta
First of all , what you had in your house would depend upon the profession and livelihood of his inhabitants . Also on the religions of its occupants .
Religious items- If you were a Hindu ( excluding the untouchables) , then you would have a small temple for god inside the house where the idols of god and other sacred religious texts are kept . For Muslims , the houses would be mostly bear of any religious things except for a few small things like prayer beads or quran.
Tools and equipment- If you were a farmer , you would have farming tools and equipment in the house . If you were a poor peasant ,then it would be just a few digging tools while the richer farmers /landowners wont have any tools since they employed poorer farmers to do their work. Your lifestock (if any) would be tied and bound to trees outside your house . If you were also a soldier , then your weapons would be present inside the house . Most maratha soldiers were light cavalry soldiers ,so you would just have a shield and a sword/spear in your house with you . If you were a brahmin or priest , then you would have religious texts along with you along with items for religious rituals . A wooden primitive stove would be present outside the house which would be used for cooking food
Lifestock- Maratha cavalry soldiers did not get their horses from the Armour or king. Most soldiers brought their own horses with them . So when you are not at war , your horse would be tied outside your house. If you are a rich or well off person ,You would have multiple cows and buffaloes outside your house . If you are poor , then it would be just a pair of oxens or other burdens of beast to plough your field
Objects of comfort- The house would have metallic utensils like plates , earthen pots etc for cooking and eating. The material from which these utensils were made depend on your caste and financial status . Rich landlords and upper castes would most probably have utensils made from silver . If you are poor , they would be made from cheaper metals or just made from clay . While forts and houses of rich people had beds ,chairs and other material comforts ,we cant say the same about poorer sections .
Storage- Your recently farm produce would be stored in sacs or pots . These farm produce would be stored so that people of the house can feed themselves and also to keep them until they can be sold . If you had jewelry , then it would most probably be hidden in some corner of house .
Source: Let me make it clear , As per my knowledge , there are no existing historical writings that directly tell the day to day life of a common man in maratha empire .
I had to piece this answer together from various sources .
British conquest of India , Marathas 1600-1818 = I used these books to find what kind of equipment an ordinary maratha soldier had and where did he keep it
Agrarian history of India - to find what kind of tools an ordinary farmer kept in house for farming in deccan india
bits and peices from several different texts, stories and religious books written during the aforementioned perioed
