Confederacy fetishists often point to ... as the "principal" cause of the Civil War...
Is there a standard response for such questions that involve Confederate revisionism?
We do not. We currently have standing responses for Holocaust denial and denial of genocide against Native Americans. We've discussed the possibility of more, but those topics are the most pernicious in terms of "Just Asking Questions" posts. Civil War ones tend to be more curiosity or misplaced learning. We use the pre-set responses, indeed, FAR more often on threads we remove than ones you would read.
We do have a healthy FAQ section with numerous more targeted answers that can be summed up as "The Civil War was in fact about slavery," and mods, flairs, and our excellent FAQ hunters will often drop those links into a relevant thread.
