Hello! I’d like to get a better understanding of the history of the city of Paris for an upcoming trip and am looking for a good general overview. Does anyone have a good recommendation? I’ve consulted the book list and couldn’t find anything so specific. Thank you in advance!
As someone who was in the same boat about two years ago, my own solution was "Seven Ages Of Paris" by Alistair Horne. Did the trick for me, well researched and engaging, gives you a picture of the city's whole development. Traveling around Paris, I understood where I was, how it came to be that way, and what had happened there.
