Hi. I'm looking for books on the subject of how did ancient Greece and other civilizations of that age conduct their trade and how was their cities and societies structured on an economic level.
What was the mainly used metal, where did they get it, what did they produce, exported to where, how.
How was the city designed? How did cities and villages interacts economically?
Was production centralized in bigger cities with villages supporting the city with resources?
I'm not looking for an exact area or time period, just generally the antiquity, maybe Greece, maybe bronze age?
So yeah, if any of you knows books on such subjects, I'd be grateful.
Thx!
As a starting point on ancient Greek economy and trade, I can suggest:
Migeotte, LeĢopold. The economy of the Greek cities: from the archaic period to the early Roman empire. Berkeley: University of California Press, 2009.
It is a topic that I am also interested in, so I am hoping that others have additional suggestions.
The following recent books on Greek and Roman economies could also be useful:
The Cambridge Economic History of Greco-Roman World. Scheidel, Morris and Saller. Cambridge University Press, 2007.
Ownership and Exploitation of Land and Natural Resources in the Roman World. Erdkamp, Verboven & Zuiderhoek. Oxford University Press, 2015
Trade in Classical Antiquity. Neville Morley. Cambridge University Press 2007.
The Cambridge Companion to the Roman Economy. Scheidel. Cambridge University Press, 2012.
