Trotskyist author Ted Grant claimed that British Army with support by MI5 planned a coup in 1970 if Labor Party (dominated by left-wing internal groups ) came to power. Is this true?

There was some discussion in the previous thread, Was there a genuine attempt by the British military to depose Harold Wilson's government in the mid-70's? The most pertinent comments were by /u/michaelnoir, /u/ooburai, and /u/AimHere. The sources claiming "secret state destabilisation of a succession of Labour governments" are from far more than one author.

That posting is archived, so any new questions would have to be asked here. This note is not to discourage such questions, and personally I'd love to hear more.

Follow-up question(s): what would the plot have actually looked like? What I mean is, would there have been an outright overt coup (to overthrow Wilson) or would it have been dressed up as an emergency response after Wilson was attacked by 'definitely not us'?

Also, do we know what the plotters would have done once in power; what would their domestic/foreign policies have been like and how would they have squared things with the US/NATO etc? Was it only going to be a short-term take-over or would it have run for years?

Thanks.
