Government papers have been released in Ireland from 30 years ago. These include a letter to Charley Haughey, the Taoiseach (Irish PM) at the time, purportedly from the Ulster Volunteer Force, a loyalist paramilitary group.
The letter claims that “in 1985 we were approached by an MI5 officer... (who) ...asked us to execute you.”
Is this plausible? Even if they were trying to set up the UVF, I find it difficult to believe that MI5 would make this approach.
