I've heard a theory that what separates Homo Sapiens from other hominids in terms of survival was our domestication of Dogs. Is there evidence for this? Support in the Academic world?

The idea is that other hominids did not ever domesticate dogs and that from the perspective of other hominids, Homo Sapiens essentially seemed to have the power to control wolves.

There are some here who can address this question, but you may receive good insight from /r/Askanthropology. You may want to try there as well.
