I am under the impression that most sources that have taught me about the Persian Empire depict the Persians as brutal and evil, especially in regards to their quests to the West. Were they really evil in their ruling and treatment of the people that they conquered, or what?
/u/Daeres answered a question that basically covers yours, it's In the West we see the Persian empire as terrible people who tried to claim Greece. I learned later in life that they granted freedoms to most of its citizens and tested them with respect. My question is what is the truth and what is the bias of the Persian empire taught.
