Did "Dragons" actually affect the way medieval villagers and cities acted? Where people actually sent out to kill "Dragons"? Has a "Dragon" cause a large impact single important event?
In using Dragon in quotes I'm refering to the idea of Dragons. I always felt like Hollywood over played the importance of Dragons in medevil times.

Sadly no, it seems that most medieval Europeans did not believe that dragons were real creatures, or that if they did exist it was only in far-off exotic lands. Perhaps u/terminus-trantor knows if early Portuguese explorers sailing the coast of Africa and the indian ocean ever expressed concerns about possibly running into dragons or other horrible monsters, but i have doubts that they were very serious.
