Le Goff's book is old and some of the information, especially in the first chapters (on barbarians) has been modified by more recent research. But it's a fantastic and readable entry into the sort of "setting" of medieval Europe over time that will give you a good basis for more focused topics like sexuality (Karras) or CSI: Medieval Paris (Jager).
I have a subscription to The Great Courses Plus. It features outstanding lecturers/professors from various colleges etc... who speak about their specialties. There are many courses on the Middle Ages. You also have access to hundreds of other courses on many topics. History is my favorite subject so the list is endless. I finally have an overview of history and many of the timelines and cultures which used to confuse me.
You can stream the classes so I can pick up where I left off on any device. You can also pick and choose different lectures on each subject if a certain topic bores you.
15/month is a crazy good price to pay for what it offers. The original The Great Courses has a few courses which aren’t offered on the The Plus version. I needed to purchase one on Medieval England and The Great War but they are both outstanding. They have deeply discounted sales so don’t be put off by the list price.
