During a roleplaying game a friend of mine said that during the 1920's Opium would have been stored in a bag of some kind. I have since learned that the plastic bag was patented in the 1950s, and the ziploc bag was invented in 1968. I would guess most powders would be stored in a glass beaker or vial during the 20's. Does anyone happen to know how powders (drugs in particular) would have been stored during the early twentieth century?
Writers such as Lord Coleridge and Thomas De Quincey, who lived and composed poetry during the Romantic/Victorian Age, frequently consumed their opium in pill form. While this may have been several decades prior to the '20s, the drug was largely smoked in its traditional form in China, and other Eastern countries. At the very least, these opiates would have been stored in pill-boxes, sometimes made of imported China, during the late-Victorian era. Not a bag. It was often stored as a powder, and later put into capsules. In this case, it was still most-likely stored in small ceramic containers.
