Where can I go to find about the conquest of Britain by the Romans

Hey! Really happy to hear people interested in the topic.

For ancient authors: you can start with Julius Caesar's account of his two invasion attempts into Britain in "The Gallic Wars" (De Bello Gaulico). It's a pretty common text you can pick up at most libraries.

Then you could move onto the account of the invasion that 'stuck' under Claudius in Suetonius' "Lives of the Twelve Caesars", specifically the chapter on Claudius. A good read over all and again, pretty widely available.

For some reading about life in Roman Britain following the invasion, Tacitus' "Agricola", while a bit of a slog, is detailed and informative (if a bit biased).

For modern authors: I'm a big fan of R. G. Collingwood's "Roman Britain". It's short and sweet, just try to find the newest edition you can to avoid out-of-date facts.

A lot of what I have read focuses on the period after the invasion, during the provincial period, and for that I REALLY highly recommend "An Imperial Possession: Britain in the Roman Empire" by David Mattingly (Anything by Mattingly is good stuff, "Imperialism, Power, and Identity" has a lot of food for thought and a few chapters on Roman Britain).

If you want a deep-dive into the most famous aspect of Roman Britain: you can get the "Handbook to the Roman Wall", the most recent edition of which is written by the wonderful David Breeze.

Hope that helps!
