• Most people in Europe were unaware of the Renaissance because art and learning affected a very tiny portion of the European population.
• The Renaissance was only truly experienced by the rich and the painters who served them. The majority of Europeans were peasants.
• The "Renaissance" is a label devised by the modern people in order to describe this period as opposed to a period labeled in its time like wars and events.
