There are a number of early sources on it by British surveys and those running the Northeast Frontier Agency (NEFA), from the tail end of your time period. Jhum is slash-and-burn as practiced in that area at that time.

Unless you're only looking at "how fire is an important material resource from around 1750-1850" in America in which case never mind, but you didn't specify so I wouldn't know if that's the case.

If you look at swidden farming or shifting cultivation strategies you will find some stuff. There is a lot of work done by anthropology in that field
