To clarify the "completely unknown", I was thinking along the lines of how they found the Hittites almost by accident, and we didn't have anything on them apart from references in the Bible.
I would say 100% likely. The window on human civilization and cultural expansion keeps moving backwards and is now reaching into the end of the last ice age with discoveries like Golbeki Tempe. Back then sea levels were much lower and the climate was often very different. Over 90% of humans today live along coastlines, lakes and rivers, we can assume that that has always been so. Those are areas that are most prone to dramatic geologic change over this period. So there is much to be discovered, especially in the Sahara, Persian Gulf, the Black Sea and along the ice age coastlines that are now submerged by oceans like Doggerland.
