I understand that the word ‘sword’ can be used as a very broad term, but I would most interested in the sword that first comes to mind when thinking of ‘inaccurate’ medieval movies I.e. Norman swords. However, information on Asian style swords, the gladius and other general cutting weapons would be very valuable too. Any information on weighted weapons and their relationship to ‘swords’ would also be much appreciated.

I’m interested in whether swords became almost non-existent on the battle field due to plate or mail armour, and what were the reasons for its popularity at its peak usage.
