World War Two German Uniform Indentification

by guethlein92

Hello, within this post is a picture of my Great-Grandfather. He was a soldier during World War Two, originating from East Prussia. I am writing a research paper on him and I was wanting to know if someone could please identify the type of uniform (field or dress), the year (approx), and whether or not it is a Wehrmacht Uniform or an SS/Waffen SS uniform. Thank you guys and have a great day/night/weekend!

This is a feldgrau which for enlisted men generally served both functions although sometimes the more elite units would receive specialized camo and the panzer units had their own black dress uniforms. Its definitely a Heer uniform which you can tell by the collar it does not have the SS insignia but two bars which signifies an enlisted men in the Heer its also not a Luftwaffe uniform either which had a bird like line there. He's not an NCO either which you can tell because his epaulet doesn't contain a thick colored edge around but a thin one. The sepia tone makes it hard to tell the color of the eagle which would make it possible to determine the date more precisely but it looks like it has an exact border rather than the rushed triangular border so it was one made between 1938 and 1944 although I can't say that for certain from an old photo like this. Theres no pins or badges on his uniform to suggest he was part of an elite or armored unit. If you have any more info id be glad to help
