I was watching a youtube video on the death of Roman Emperors and quickly noticed how often the Praetorian Guard was responsible for an Emperors demise...

Why did this continue for so long? Why would Emperors continue to keep the Praetorian Guard, knowing their history of murder?

I'm sure this is a very loaded question with entire books on the subject, but it seems incredibly odd that such a tradition would be continued.
