I didn't know where else to ask this question. I'm trying to compile academic and primary sources about Black Sabbath's influence in music and society. I'm also looking to see how the band was a reflection of the politics and issues of the late 60s and early 70s. I would appreciate your expertise and guidance.
The most important thing to understand about sabbath is that they were realists that counteracted the hippy culture of the 60s. While you had folk artists attacking the war, people kind of got tired of the sound. Blue collared workers were also frustrated and couldnt relate to the happy go luckiness of that scene. Sabbath was dark and heavy but at the same time very accessible because of their blues influence. The heaviness of the sound was also an accident. Their guitar player cut his finger off in a factory accident which led to a heavier sound based on how he had to modify his instrument.
