I'm doing a paper on the effect of the HMS Dreadnought, and how it effected the designs of naval vessels. I was hoping that there might be a site or book that would have schematics, or even just pictures and drawings of the HMS Dreadnought, some of the pre-dreadnought ships, and the later designs.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
There are a number of options for what you're looking for. Bookwise, I'd recommend starting with D K Brown's Warrior to Dreadnought and The Grand Fleet, which give good overviews of British warship design in this period. They include a number of images of the original schematics, or sketches of proposed or completed designs. However, they cover a wider spread of designs, spending more time discussing the designs of cruisers, destroyers and submarines than they do battleships. For a more focused look at battleships, I'd turn to R A Burt's trilogy: British Battleships 1889-1904, British Battleships of WWI and British Battleships 1919-1945. These contain a considerable number of images of the ships they describe, as well as detailed sketches and plans. Norman Friedman's The British Battleship 1906-45 is similar, however, his British Battleships of the Victorian Era has yet to be released. For online sources, the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich has digitised many of the plans in its collection, albeit in relatively poor detail. An example would be this view of Dreadnought.
