I am trying to find out some information for a ww2 vet friend of mine. This is all the information I have from a story he told me.
There's a house in Europe (Spain maybe he doesn't remember) that was owned by a Jewish family, they where taken away and the Nazi officer who took them began to live in the house. One day during a bombing run of a near by town a roque bomb hit the home and he was killed inside. The house was the only one hit on the block and he was the only causality.
He went back many years later and the house was still just a whole the town doesn't talk about it like there is some weird huanted folklore to it He believes it's still just a hole to this day.
I know this is vague and impossible if any one has heard of this house or know more about this story please help. He has always wanted more information and I love to find it for him.
I talked to him on the phone, I was way off on spain. He is hard to understand.
He said Wurzburg Germany. When he returned back in the late 50s early 60s there was a grass field runway that they landed on it had a small barracks on it. The runway was only a couple miles away from the house. When he came back in the late 50s early 60s it was still a hole.
Do you know anything about the circumstances under which your friend came to know of this town? Was he a soldier moving through it? An airman shot down over it? What year was it?
All of these things can help to narrow down possibilities.
From what I could find, there are only two nearby airstrips - there's Flugplatz Wurzburg-Schenkenturm and Flugplatz Hettstadt, which is closer to the description - a single grass field with a small set of barracks next to it.
The only areas within a couple of miles of the airport are Waldbuttelbrun and Hettstadt itself - both small towns with, unfortunately, no way of checking for craters.
That's the best I could do, I'm afraid! Is there any other information that can be obtained? Landmarks, maybe some sort of local names?
