Book suggestions about important Roman politicians and emperors?

by Sabbinator

I was scrolling through the booklist that another user introduced me to, I noticed there was a very distinct lack of books on people. So, I was wondering, do you have any book suggestions regarding...

  • Caesar
  • Crassus
  • Pompey
  • Cicero and other politicians
  • Augustus
  • Antony
  • Lepidus
  • Other politicians.

I'm also looking for books on important emperors, like Constantine. Things I'm interested in are the politics and exploits, and maybe some trivia, about these men.

Thanks in advance.

I first saw it recommended here and I really enjoyed it so I want to suggest Caesar: Life of a Colossus by Adrian Goldsworthy. It's fun to read, it's informative and it's a great way to learn about Julius Caesar.

Another book I've been recommended here is Antony & Cleopatra also by Goldsworthy which is a pretty good source on Mark Anthony's later career and personal life.

Then there's Sulla, The Last Republican by Arthur Keaveney which was very educational and The Spartacus War by Barry Strauss which was fun.

I hope you like these and I'll be interested to see what anyone else has to add as recommendations.
