I've had a brief discussion with my boss today and she told me, that some historians found proof, that Hungarians were present in Europe, way before anyone else and may even be more ancient than Mesopotamia. Among other claims.
Now, my bullshit detector was giving yellow warnings all over, but I decided to do some searching around anyway and I found this quite interesting article, which claims that the Magyars and Sumerians are closely connected. Now, I can see some fallacies myself, for example, how it likes to make conclusions based on inconclusive research, or how it likes to take pure conjecture as evidence. Or the fact that it's clearly a Hungarian website, meaning it's inherently biased. Some of it seems like something straight out of a Nigahiga conspiracy video.
But I'm not a historian, so I can't quite spot what really matters here. Some of the claims in the beginning of the article, before it spirals away into crazy-town, even seem pretty reasonable to me.
I guess what I'm asking is, how much faith should I put into this theory? The theory that Magyar culture is among the most ancient ones in the world?

Unrelated to Hungarian nationalism, a few hundred years before the rise of Uruk and other Mesopotamian cities in the bronze age, some of the largest villages or proto-cities in the world were in what is now Ukraine, for example Maydanetsk. You can read about the archaeology of these sites in The Horse, the Wheel, and Language by David Anthony.
