I'm afraid to post a pic of the flag in fear of being banned/etc.
My stepdad was a truck driver and collects anything war related. This particular flag caught my eye as it reminded me of a pirate flag until I got a full look at it:
Four squares. Upper right and bottom left are just black squares. Upper left square has a palm tree with a swastika on it. Bottom right has II/21 written in it.
I know it's vague, but does anyone know anything about it? Stepdad believes it was a German takeover of Africa but isn't 100% sure.
Thanks in advance and I apologize if this is not the correct sub.
Sounds like a German Afrika Corps Fahrzeugerkennungszeichen. You described it very well. It's questionable whether the Germans used this on flags as it was used more on vehicles, etc. In the 1970s, a company started creating flags with this emblem on them.
