Hello, I am looking for quality books on the Thirty Years’ War through the wars of Louis XIV and the Second Hundred Years’ War, up to 1789 (Spanish Succession, Polish Succession, Austrian Succession, Seven Years, etc.). Also would appreciate recommendations for the French Revolutionary/Napoleonic Wars.
Thanks!
For the Napoleonic Wars I recommend Jac Weller's Wellington in the Peninsula which as the title suggests focuses on the British campaign against the French on the Iberian peninsula from 1808-1814. I also recommend his later book Wellington at Waterloo.
You might be better off asking your question in the Saturday Reading and Research thread. That's really the place for book recommendations.
European Warfare 1350-1750 edited by Tallett and Trim is an easy recommendation. I'm personally a big fan of the chronological scope ignoring the traditional Medieval/Early Modern periodisation.
For the Thirty Years Ware specifically, you could try Europe's Tragedy: A New History of the Thirty Years War by Peter H. Wilson (which was recommended to me by a specialist in the period as "the best general history of the war available in English").
Sounds like you’d enjoy Russ Weigley, The Age of Battles.
