I just finished reading "Ten days that shook the world" and I'm fascinated by the Russian revolution, in particular the civil war that followed. What would be some reputed and thoroughly researched works to start with? I'm particularly interested in those that look at it from a subaltern viewpoint (if that makes any sense in this context). However, other viewpoints, milhist analyses, etc are all welcome.
/u/kieslowskifan just wrote out a decent list on this the other day, which is available here
"A History of Ukraine: The Land and Its Peoples - 2nd Edition" by Paul Robert Magocsi
This book has several chapters on the Bolshevik Revolution and the following Civil War, and how it specifically impacted Ukraine. This source does a great job at narrating the complexity of Ukraine, and how it was involved in the "Russian" Revolution and "Russian" Civil War. It is an extremely long read and at times can be long winded, but if you really want to know about how the Revolution and Civil War impacted Ukraine, and Ukraine's involvement then I would highly recommend this source!
