Could anyone please help me find a primary source about Lake Tahoe?

by jaybiebz

Hi! I'm having a hard time finding any primary sources about Lake Tahoe. I am looking for both a visual primary source, as well as an article or document of some kind. Must be dated before 1980. I am writing a paper and field guide about Lake Tahoe, and specifically would like to make it on conservation, or animals, or something around that kind of thing. The main point of it is seeing how it affects the landscape of lake tahoe. At this point though, I would be fine with changing my direction and doing it on something else, because I can't really find any primary sources on any subjects about Lake Tahoe. I have an appointment on Tuesday with a college librarian to see if we can find something, but was hoping I might find something before. Any leads would be awesome. Thank you.

Hi - we as mods have approved this thread, because while this is a homework question, it is asking for clarification or resources, rather than the answer itself, which is fine according to our rules. This policy is further explained in this Rules Roundtable thread and this META Thread.

As a result, we'd also like to remind potential answerers to follow our rules on homework - please make sure that your answers focus appropriately on clarifications and detailing the resources that OP could be using.

Additionally, while users may be able to help you out with specifics relating to your question, we also have plenty of information on /r/AskHistorians on how to find and understand good sources in general. For instance, please check out our six-part series, "Finding and Understanding Sources", which has a wealth of information that may be useful for finding and understanding information for your essay.

I can't help with the primary source, but Marc Reisner's Cadillac Desert may help point you in the right direction. It's mainly focused on the Bureau of Reclamation under Floyd Dominy, but it discusses Western Conservation/water policy more broadly.
