Lately, I have noticed that people have been correcting each other when it comes to Vikings and history. Someone will say something like "I have Viking ancestry" and someone else will say "No because Viking was a profession." If this is true... what is the correct term that should be used. Would you say you have old Scandinavian ancestry? I'm actually really curious about that because when I do research it's hard to tell the two apart. Can anyone explain more on this topic?

I'm also pretty curious about why calling everyone with Scandinavian roots a Viking is a thing.
