You might be interested in some of the writing on Early Modern poverty featured on The Many-Headed Monster, a blog for late Medieval and Early Modern writings about class and society. One piece includes the life story of one Agnes Cooper as dictated by Cooper herself to a scribe, and another a set of documents that shed some light on how poor people felt about their clothes, one autobiography written in retrospect by a no-longer-impoverished author and one court record. But the sources of these documents are kind of telling -- a lot of Early Modern documentation of the voices of people who were at the time still in poverty come from legal documents, and may not come entirely unfiltered.
