So this might be an odd question for this subreddit, but it's one that has been bugging me for a long time and I didn't see any other relevant subreddits. This is an old family picture, taken probably sometime between 1905 and 1908 in the Scott County, VA area. The woman in the casket is my 3x great grandmother, the man to the immediate right of the casket is her husband, and the young boy and girl in the foreground are their children. The identities of the rest of the people are not definitively known to me. My question lies in the sashes that the man in the middle and my 3x great grandfather are wearing. What do they symbolize? Are they religious in nature, perhaps Jewish, Native American or even Christian related? I know nothing about this side of my family, but I assume that they were Christian. I don't know where she is buried or what her maiden name was, so I have no information on her family and their religious affiliations. Could it have some local historical significance? Any insight would be very much appreciated, or if you know someone who might know that I could contact, that would be great! Link to a findagrave.com page with the image...

A likelier reason for the sashes would be a fraternal order: like the Improved Order of Redmen, the Odd-Fellows, or Freemasons. But it is impossible to tell what imagery is on the sashes; that might give a clue.
