precedent for confederate Calvary providing their own horses

by toughknuckles

I know Roman Calvary provided their own horses, but was that a reasonable thing for a 19th century nation? how did grant not know this was happening? if a horse was killed in battle and the rider couldn't get a new one would he become infantry? does this difference cultivate an apparent confederate advantage in the east for the majority of the war?

You mean “cavalry,” not “Calvary.” See how your autocorrect is capitalizing it? Calvary is the hill where Christ was crucified. Cavalry is soldiers on horseback.
