Hello!
I've been experiencing some issues related to finding quality sources about how the lives of the Athenians were, and I've been having this itch to scratch when it comes to Athens for such a long while I'm afraid I can't bear to put it off any longer. So, I'm wondering if there are any good, thoroughly researched sources to start with that you know of? What I'm thinking of when I say "the life of Athenians" is how did they live? What were issues they had to battle? Politics, state of government, and - in a nutshell - just about everything that would concern a citizen of Athens in the classical era. I hold this predilection towards books I could potentially buy off of Amazon or the like, but as long as I can get some information about Athens, I'm very much in favor of that instead of having none at all!
Cheers!
There's A Reading Recommendations List on Ancient Greece that has been put together by flaired users and moderators. The entries have Amazon links and if you order them through the FAQ then some of the proceeds go towards covering the costs of the /r/AskHistorians podcast (which the mods usually pay for out of pocket).
There's a few subsections on Athens and Athenian democracy, and Greek culture, economy and society. I definitely recommend giving it a look.
